Grace Davies

ABOUT

Although my professional life started in photography, it eventually transitioned to sculpture, mainly ceramic.  Along the way I’ve explored many different mediums and methods of visual art—oil, acrylic, watercolor, collage, encaustic, and mixed media.  I have followed when my thoughts lead me to learn an unfamiliar way of interpreting my subject matter.  A woodland scenic may want to be oil, but a sunrise in a meadow may suggest a watercolor.  A piglet may be born of clay, but an octopus called for epoxy resin. My goal is to keep the fluidity of expression alive and adding new techniques all the time.  For me, art wants to be free.

Grace Davies was born in NJ and studied photography at F.I.T. and Geology at Hunter College. In 2001 she started taking studio classes in ceramics and sculpture and soon realized that working in three dimensions offered an inspirational outlet for her creative expression.  She loves the challenge of working with new materials, combining metal, plaster, wood, epoxy resin, glass and concrete with fired ceramics.  She has studios in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
